Sweetener StatementUpdated 4 months ago

Collective and robust scientific data to date has consistently demonstrated the safety (and benefits) of low- and no-calories sweeteners (LNCS)

EFSA, the FSA, the FDA and other regulatory bodies deem aspartame and other sweeteners safe for the use in food. They are researched & regulated in the same way as any other approved food additives, and SiS adheres to the criteria for safe use in all our products.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF LNCS CONSUMPTION

Weight Management

Opting to consume foods and beverages sweetened with LNCS can help reduce overall daily sugar intake. In turn, as part of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle, this can result in lower calorie intake and help to lower excess body weight.

Diabetes & blood sugar control

LCNS do not raise bloody glucose levels or affect blood glucose control, enabling a wider range of lower-sugar products to provide a greater choice for people with diabetes. The European Commission allows a health claim that LNCS induce a lower blood-glucose rise after their consumption compared to sugary food & drink.

Oral Health

LCNS can be beneficial to oral health due to their lack of tooth decay-causing properties. The European Commission has approved a health claim that the consumption of foods containing LNCS instead of sugar contributes to the maintenances of tooth mineralisation by reducing tooth demineralisation resulting for the fermentation of carbohydrates. For example, sugar free gum helps to stimulate saliva flow in the mouth without providing any carbohydrates for the oral plaque bacteria to metabolise.
